Date Modified Wednesday, September 02, 2009 Power management Windows includes default power management settings that can be incompatible with Point of Success software, Internet service and the point of sale printers you select for your system. You should disable all power management functions on all Point of Success computers in your system. Disabling general power management settings None of your computers should be set to power down a hard disk drive, suspend or hibernate. Access your general power management settings here: Start > Control Panel > Power Management. Disabling network adapter power management settings Windows is set by default to power down your computer’s network adapter after an idle period. Point of Success’ database server may disconnect a computer’s connection to the server if the network adapter is powered down. Access your network adapter power management settings here: Start > Control Panel > System > Device Manager. Find your network adapter in the hardware list, then right-click the device and choose Properties from the menu. Click the Power Management tab in the properties window and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." Disabling USB power management settings If you have printers, touch screens or an Internet device (DSL or cable modem) connected to USB ports you should disable USB power management. Click Start > Control Panel > System > Device Manager, then find your USB Root Hub devices in the hardware list. Right-click the first device, then choose Properties from the menu. Click the Power Management tab and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." Repeat for all USB Root Hub devices.
