Remove orders before starting to use the system in live production. Clearing database.
Q: Is it possible to delete closed order tickets?  I have all the "test" orders from setting up the program.  I would like to start at order number one when I am ready to begin using the program. Point of Success Error - tblTillBank: Error 7038: Invalid record #
Q: This error occurs when I try to open a till or bank for POS software. I am unable to open a Till or Bank for my employees since this morning. No changes were made to the configuration the POS. Error: classfactory cannot supply requested class
This error is caused by a problematic ActiveX control. An ActiveX control is a software component used in the Mercury Payment Systems server and in many other programs. Because there is no easy way to tell which ActiveX component is causing the problem and there is no way to automatically correct this error with a reinstallation, there are two options to correct this issue. What is the best way to handle tips on credit cards?
Q: What is the best way to pay my server or my delivery drivers the tips that are put on the credit card?  Do I need to do a pay out? Q: We have a two color printer and would like too be able to print just the word delivery and the customer's address on a all in one ticket in red the rest of the ticket in black. Time sensitive prices
Q: If a product is time sensitive, where do you set the time? Example, for happy hour, how do you set up the time to have a different price for the item? Re-Open a closed ticket
Q: Sometimes while tendering a payment during a service, it may happen that the wrong ticket is selected and the server uses the full amount button in the POS system and tenders a payment for a table but it is the wrong ticket. Is there any way to re-open a closed ticket? A: For security purposes, closed tickets may not be re-opened. How to assign tills to multiple employees
Q: I currently run with one till all day. I open up a new till, assign the staff and I am fine all day until a new employee comes in.  The new employee does not have a till assign to them and they cannot ring anyone up. I would like to have one till for the day. How do I change to Daylight Saving Time?
Daylight time is controlled by Windows. Point of Success gets the date and time from Windows, then automatically synchronizes all computers on your network to the server date and time. With the change in the start and end dates enacted for daylight time in 2007, Microsoft released an update to Windows to change daylight time automatically. Calculating sales tax due when tax is included in the price of products sold
Q: In the UK VAT (sales tax) is included in the price of the item and we don't itemize out tax (accounting for it is only done when dealing with the tax office).  Is there any way of entering the price of items for example £1.90 for a cappuccino and have the system account for the 17.5% tax on that item in back office without it occurring in the front of house interface? Printer not printing the whole ticket
Q: I had a big order, about 15 items. The printer only printed the first 10 items and the rest didn't print on the ticket. A: This is likely caused by the printer driver page length setting. Telephone lines
Q: Have 8 incoming telephone lines and 8 touch screen monitors.  All servers, CPUs, caller ID box are located in the basement with wires running through the floor. 7008 is a file open error. The specified table, memo file, or index file was unable to be opened. Parts of Point of Success open data files exclusively. Other parts of Point of Success cannot be used if data files are open exclusively. The Point of Success Data Utilities program and the CreatePOSData program require exclusive access to data files. Adapting a ticket for an unsupported POS ticket printer and correcting slow ticket printing
Point of sale ticket printers generally use old technology that does not work well with Windows font printing. To make a POS printer work at top speed, tickets must be designed using resident printer fonts. Q: When I try to run the bank reconciliation report, I get the following message: Not enough storage to process this command. What does this mean and how can i solve it? A: This error occurs only when trying to display a preview of a report designed for a POS printer. Credit Card masking
Q: When we need to give a refund for an order and no longer have the credit card in our possession, we need to call Mercury Payments and get the number from them. Isn't there a way to unmask the CC number? A: For security purposes, credit card numbers are completely purged from Point of Success after a few days. Error 6420 - The discovery process for the Advantage Database Server failed
6420 Error Troubleshooting Information Point of Success uses the Advantage Database Server to protect data from network-induced problems and to speed access to the data. Setting a startup delay for the Order Entry program
In some cases where the Order Entry program and the database server software reside on the same computer, a 6420 error will occur of the Order Entry program launches automatically on startup of the computer. Substitutions on the super button
Q: I want to allow for one substitution on the specialty pizzas in the super button.  Take off one of the default toppings and substitute another topping with no change in the price.  We can change the toppings but it adds the price for the new topping as if you were adding a topping without taking one off. Is there a way to print a prep ticket without the prices?

Component Palette
Q: The component palette was accidentally closed or moved off the screen. How can it be brought back up or onto the screen? A: If the component palette was closed, you can bring it back by pressing F9 to change to the Run mode, them pressing F9 again to change back to the Design mode. Sharing printers on a network
Printers are shared on a network for use by Point of Success using Windows printer sharing. Before following these instructions, be sure you have enabled file and printer sharing on all the computers on the network. The easiest way to do this is to run the Windows Network Setup Wizard. Can I use a crossover cable for my two user network?

How to copy a menu and its associated files from the Point of Success demo for use in the live software
These instructions will copy all Point of Success data files associated with a menu configuration: Change the name of the C:\Point of Success folder to another name (like C:\Point of Success Demo). Install the new Point of Success software. Copy all files in the C:\Point of Success Demo\Data folder that begin with Product (product*.*). This should be ten files in total. Copying the menu design to another computer
Q: Is it possible to design the menu on a CD and save it? A: Yes. After the menu design is finished, go to the C:\Point of Success\Data folder and copy all 10 files whose name begins with Product. Slow printing
It is very important to get the correct printer drivers for the printer you are using to print receipts. Failure to do so can produce unpredictable results. One side-effect of having the wrong Windows printer drivers installed is extremely slow printing. The best source for drivers is the Point of Success Knowledge Base. Included toppings error
Q: The problem I am coming up with is when I set up a pizza with included items, e.g. Supreme includes pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, onion, green pepper and black olives, and then switch to the order entry mode, when I delete an item, it adds the cost of the item to the ticket.  I don't want to do that and I also don't want to decrease the cost the pizza by not adding that topping.  Is there some way to do it that I just have not found, other than creating a product entry with no charge at (... more)

Changing the work day
Q: My company is open from 11am until 2am. The Point of Success system resets the drawer count to 0 at midnight. A: Both Point of Success Standard and Point of Success Premium support either a calendar day or a user-definable business day. Using the calendar day setting automatically closes each day at midnight. The business day setting allows you to close the day whenever you want to close it. Employee card setup and use
What is an Employee Card? An employee card looks like a credit card – rectangular plastic with a magnetic stripe on the back. Each card is numbered on the front to help identify the card; no two cards will have the same number. The front card number is used to identify which card is issued to an employee. Q: In Vermont we are supposed to charge 9% tax for meals and 10% tax for alcoholic beverages.  Can you tell me how to set a different tax rate for my alcohol sales? Point of Success works with cash drawers that plug into receipt printers. Serial, parallel and USB cash drawers are not supported. Enable cash drawer and cash drawer control codes
To enable a cash drawer in connection with the current workstation, check the 'Enable Cash Drawer' check box for up to 2 cash drawers. These cash drawers are controlled by the receipt printer. The "Open Drawer Codes" are called an escape sequence. Some common escape sequences for popular printers are listed below. Closeout of a down workstation
Q: If we have 2 POS register stations and 1 back office and the screen goes out on one of the registers (It's an all in one), can you force a closeout of banks & tills from the office PC? Discounting an item to a specific price.

Printer unexpectedly prints a large volume of tickets (sometimes every order in the system)
When a POS printer unexpectedly begins to print a huge number of tickets or one very long ticket, the cause is normally a problem in the assignment of the ticket printing template. Using two cash drawers on one POS printer
Point of Success supports up to two cash drawers per order entry workstation. Cash drawers must be connected through a point of sale printer. POS printers normally offer one cash drawer port. To connect two cash drawers, an adapter is required. These adapters are made for specific POS printers and are generally not interchangeable. Zip Code List

Till -vs- Bank? What is the difference?
A till is an accounting of money that has a cash drawer attached to it. Staff members who will run a cash drawer are assigned a till and the funds are managed and balanced using that assigned till. A bank is an accounting of money that does not have a cash drawer associated with it. This can be money that is given to a driver for making change. Workstation Setup (Order Entry)
From the Point of Success Order Entry main screen, press the Setup button. The Workstation Setup screen will display. Number Pad (Order Entry)
Upon initial entry into the Point of Success system, a number pad is presented for the user to use to login to the system. Each staff member in the system must have a PIN number in order to login to the system. On the Enter Pin number pad, the numbers keyed in do not echo to the white field above the numbers and are replaced with the ‘*’ symbol. Customize List View
Each of the centers on the main screen of the Point of Success Office Manager program has many pieces of data that can be displayed. Not all fields are displayed by default. Customer Contact
If 'Business' is selected in customer entry an additional tab is included in Customer Entry called 'Contacts.' This field allows the user to enter individual customers to be included under one company contact. This is useful when one business, company, or office building houses several customers. Customer Entry
There are two places where customer information can be entered into the computer. First, in Customer Entry, a list of customers can be keyed in at once. Select Printing Templates
There are eight printing templates that should be set up in order to assign output from the Point of Success Order Entry program. Each type of receipt is assigned to a specific output format. Default types have been included with the installation of the program. If a particular field is left at the default 'None' that type of ticket will not be printed. Security Groups and Profiles
By default, four security groups are designated: Administrator, Manager, Assistant Manager, and Employee. Administrator is the system administrator and has no restrictions placed on it by definition. Each designation below Administrator has decreased access or increased restriction place on them. These setting are user definable. Product Entry
SPECIAL NOTE: It will be of great benefit to set up all products for sale in Product Entry before designing a food menu. Product Entry is one of the main centers of the program and access to the product setup screens is found under the Products menu. It is not found under the Tools menu. Product Type Sales Tax and Inventory Setup
This list is user-definable and can be found in the Point of Success Office Manager system under the Tools menu under the heading "Accounting and Business Information." Click the sales tax underlined blue hyperlink to access this list. The tax rate of the city, county, and state are requested in this window. Paid Out Type List
Paid Out Type is used when funds are removed from a cash register to define the purpose of the funds removed. This list is user definable. Paid Out cash is entered by pressing a button on the Till and Bank List. Any time dollars are removed from the till to pay miscellaneous charges, a paid out type should be used. Tills and Banks
Till and bank opening balances are set for each day of the week. This allows the user to limit the amounts of tills and banks for risk management. Enter the default opening amount for the tills by keying in the dollar value on the left panel of the Tills and Banks screen.
